An antidote to coding agent amnesia

Whichever coding agent you use, what you talk about is lost when you start a new session. That is coding agent amnesia, and DevSpec has a better answer.

The problem every software engineer faces when working with coding agents is simple. Whichever coding agent you use, what you talk about is lost when you come back and launch a new session.

Some coding agents have attempted to solve this problem, but not one has fully solved it.

That problem is known as coding agent amnesia. Outside a session, the agent does not remember.

One way to mitigate it is to keep track of which coding agent sessions you used to solve particular problems, and then relaunch those sessions when you need them. This only partially solves the problem, and it requires you to keep track of them yourself.

Another attempt is to prime your coding agent with context that might be relevant, by going back and finding conversations and information that matter. That might be Slack conversations, emails, or any previous planning or discussion. Again, that takes time and effort, and you run the risk of missing important information.

The most effective workaround is to try to automate that process by connecting the agent to data sources where this important information might live. But that is imperfect, because you are hoping your coding agent knows where to look and finds everything relevant. It also means your agent burns through far more tokens searching, and the whole process takes longer.

DevSpec has a better solution. It captures decisions and the full reasoning behind them across the conversation, the work, and the project's memory — and actively checks new work against them at every step of the lifecycle.

When new work clashes with an earlier decision, it is flagged up front before you waste time building it (or kept safely on its own branch). Your agent walks you through why that decision was made and who made it — even if that teammate is away on holiday or left the company a year ago. You can talk it through with the AI and land on a better approach on the spot, or build the change on its own branch while you get the right person's OK to update the decision.

And because coding agents work directly from those living decisions and project memory, they never start from a blank slate. DevSpec equips your team and your coding agents with a shared brain that keeps everyone aligned, so each session starts sharper than the last.
