Analytics

Analytics tells you how a project is moving, in plain sentences rather than a wall of charts: how long work waits at each stage, which goals the effort went to, whether work is planned before it's built, and whether the project's recorded decisions are holding up. Every panel opens with a sentence saying what changed in the period you picked, and the numbers underneath explain it.

Open Knowledge → Analytics in the project sidebar. Everyone on the project can see it, whatever their role.

Read a project's analytics

On a project's Analytics page, pick a period at the top: 7d, 30d (the default), 90d, 1y or All. Most figures are compared with the period of the same length before it.

The This period band starts with two counts: Tasks implemented in the period (with the change against the previous period) and Created, the new tasks. Below them are three panels:

  • How long work waits. The typical wait at each stage: Created to picked up, Picked up to implemented, Created to implemented and Implemented to verified, each against the previous period. When the slowest items take far longer than the typical one, the stage also shows how long the slowest tenth took ("1 in 10 over…").
  • Where effort went. The share of implemented work that served each of the project's goals, listed By goal with each goal's share, its share last period, and the number of items. Work that isn't linked to any goal is counted as Not linked, so a large Not linked share means effort is going somewhere your goals don't describe. Each goal links to the Goals page; see Goals for linking work to a goal.
  • How work originates. How the period's new work started: Planned in a session, Created by an agent, Found after the fact (written up from commits after the work landed) or Added another way, with a New work by week chart showing how the mix is shifting.

See the project as it stands

The lower half of a project's Analytics page, Since this project connected, isn't filtered by the period you picked. It shows the project as it is today:

  • Conversations (sessions, with the number of messages), Knowledge (memories, with the number of documents) and Active people.
  • Where open work is sitting: how many open items are Not started, Being worked on, Implemented, awaiting verification or in Needs attention, and how long they've typically been there. Each row links to the Tasks page.
  • Knowledge health: Decisions that may be stale, Discussion points open and those Open for more than a month. The decision row links to Memories and the discussion rows to the project Overview. To settle a flagged decision, use the Review page; see Review.

See analytics across your organization

Settings → Analytics, in the Organization section of Settings, shows every project your organization owns in one view. You can also reach it from a project's Analytics page with See how all your organization's projects are moving.

It uses the same period picker and This period counts, then a By project table with one row per project: Implemented, Created to implemented, Most effort (the goal that took the largest share), Planned first, Flagged decisions and Biggest pile (the stage where most open work is waiting). Click a project's name to open its own Analytics page. Below the table, the All time band shows conversations, knowledge and active people across the organization.

Organization Owners, Admins and Members can open it. Guests can't: they see each project they're on through that project's own Analytics page.

When analytics update

A new project shows "Analytics are being computed for this project. Check back in a moment." until its first figures are ready, and a project with no activity yet shows Nothing to read yet. The panels fill in as sessions, tasks and memories accumulate, and update automatically as you switch between periods.

Where to see what your organization spends

Analytics pages never show money, for anyone.

Organization Owners and Admins see spending under Settings → Usage & limits → Spend: the balance, what's been spent this month and what's expected, and spend broken down by kind of work, by project, by session and by agent. Every organization member can see the balance on Settings → Billing. See Billing, usage and limits.
