Getting help
You can get help with DevSpec in four ways: Ask DevSpec for instant answers from these docs, Dev in a session for questions about your own project, the Help & support page to reach the team, and the public contact page when you can't sign in. Inside the app, all of them start from the ? menu in the header.
For fixes to common problems, see Troubleshooting. For quick answers, see the FAQ.
Ask DevSpec for instant answers
Ask DevSpec is DevSpec's help assistant. It answers questions about using the product from this documentation, and links to the page each answer comes from so you can read more. It's free: using it never draws on your organization's balance.
Open it from the ? menu in the header (top right) and choose Ask DevSpec. It's good for questions like:
- How do I connect a repository?
- What are tasks?
- How do I bring my own agent?
- How does billing work?
Ask DevSpec keeps your conversations. Closing it doesn't end the chat; open Past conversations to go back to an earlier one, or start fresh with New chat. If the docs don't cover your question, it says so and points you to the team.
Ask DevSpec is only in the app, when you're signed in. The chat on DevSpec's public website, also labeled Ask DevSpec, is a different assistant for people finding out about DevSpec. It can't see your account, so for help with your own organization or projects, sign in and use the one in the app.
Ask Dev in a session
Dev, the assistant in your sessions, can also answer questions about how DevSpec works, from these same docs. The difference is that Dev also knows your project: it can read your code and search your tasks, memories and past sessions, so it can answer questions like "which of our open items touch billing?" as well as "how do I verify an item?".
Pick Dev in the Send to picker, or type @Dev in your message, and ask. Unlike Ask DevSpec, Dev's replies are charged to your organization's balance, so use Ask DevSpec for general product questions and Dev when the answer depends on your project.
Your connected agent can search these docs too, so you can ask it how DevSpec works from its terminal. See Dev, your assistant in sessions.
If you need a person to help, choose Contact the team in Ask DevSpec. The support form includes your help conversation so you do not have to repeat what you tried. You can remove it before sending.
Contact the team from the Help page
The Help & support page is how you reach the DevSpec team from inside the app. Open it from the ? menu with Contact support, or from your avatar menu with Help & support. The page also links to these docs and the FAQ, and lists our support email address if you'd rather write directly.
Under Contact the team, one form covers everything. Choose what it's about in What is this about?:
- Report a problem
- Feedback & suggestions
- General question
- Billing question
- Enterprise inquiry
Give it a one-line summary, then the details. For Report a problem, the form asks What happened? and, optionally, What did you expect? Answering both usually saves a round of questions. It also helps to include the project and session names, what you clicked, roughly when it happened, and the exact wording of any message you saw.
Press Send. We reply to the email address on your account. If you send several messages in a short time, the form asks you to wait a while before sending another.
Contact us without signing in
If you can't sign in, or you don't have an account yet, use the public contact page. It works without an account: you give your name and email address, and we reply there.
Choose what your message is about:
- I can't access my account, if you're locked out. Give us the email address you signed up with.
- I need help with DevSpec
- Billing question
- Enterprise inquiry
- Feedback & suggestions
- Something else
Every message reaches the same team as the in-app form. If you can sign in, the Help & support page is quicker, because we can see which account the message comes from.
